Could You Survive One Month Living in Poverty?

It is difficult for those of us who have enough to truly understand the situations that families living in poverty experience every day—the decisions they have to make, and the fears and frustrations they feel. We invite you to walk a mile in the shoes of those facing poverty by participating in the Community Action Poverty Simulation (CAPS), presented by Operation: New View Community Action Agency, in partnership with the Loras College Department of Social Work and the Inclusive Dubuque Network.

The CAPS provides participants with the opportunity to assume the role of a low-income family member living on a limited budget. The experience is divided into 15-minute sessions, each representing one week in which you must provide for your family and maintain your home.

This immersive experience will be challenging and will sensitize you to the realities of life faced by people with limited incomes.

Participation in the CAPS is free and open to everyone. All sessions will take place at Loras College in Ballrooms C and D and registration is required.
