Breaking the Chain of Violence

Thinking about the terrorist attack in Orlando, it seems to me that there is a kind of evil we all recognize, in spite of our very real differences in this country. Indiscriminate murder by terrorist attack or suicide bombing is evil. Killing the innocent, the weak, the young or the old is evil. Murdering people because of their religion or race or nationality or sexual preference is evil. It is for this reason alone that the concept of ‘crimes against humanity’ was borne at the Nuremberg Nazi trials after WWII. Evil committed in a sacred cause, in the name of high ideals, is still evil.

When religion turns men into murderers, I am convinced that God weeps. Along with the rest of us. Now is the time, it is always the right time, to break the chain of gun violence.
