This Inclusive Dubuque sector group is furthering equity in the Arts and Culture scene in order to create a community where all people feel comfortable experiencing, developing and expressing their creativity, their own and that of others. Ultimately their work is a strategy that underlies all of the other Inclusive Dubuque sector groups’ work.
The Arts and Culture Sector Group believes their work will help create “an informed community where all people are respected, valued, engaged and treated fairly” by focusing on the following strategies:
- Determining how welcoming the current arts and culture scene in Dubuque is to all residents, regardless of economic status or any other difference. This is being accomplished through attending diverse events in Dubuque and talking to attendees.
- Using arts and culture as a way to intervene and work with other sector groups’ strategies.
- Encouraging and measuring the number of arts and culture venues who are adopting an equity lens that informs their programming and events schedule.
- Creating and implementing an outreach program to business leaders to inform them of the many ways that arts and culture can be used to address implicit and explicit bias.
