Nona Jones moved from Chicago to Dubuque in late 2015 with nothing but $72 and a hope for a better life.
But, she admitted Wednesday night, she hasn’t always felt at home in her new community.
“Living here in Dubuque took some getting used to, and there were some times I did not feel welcome,” said Jones, who is black. “There were times when it felt like a race thing, and times when it seemed like that was the way people felt about people from Chicago.”
